It was so sweet, BBC backstage.

It was so sweet backstage.

The recent loss of BBC Backstage represents a strong blow to the development of many innovative projects that were taking place in this unappreciated area of the BBC.

During it's 5-year reign under the inspirational and creative steer of Ian Forrester aka Cubic Garden, 'things' were radically opened up with information feeds and connections to real people(!) both inside and outside this typically quite closed organisation.

I have been very lucky to work with Ian on a number of projects, one of my favourite being a push onstage to present at the largest European TEDx.

In one way this post is a snapshot of that 5-year moment in time, and acknowledges the creatives and committed people whose work is now dispersed.

Now in the form of an ebook (please read on your iPad 2) one transformation this group was seminal in spear-heading was the successful development of the BBCiPlayer

A significant change to the way that we interact, communicate and share broadcast media.

Perhaps IF it is possible to develop some kind of subscription service for people overseas a revenue stream could be developed that might help reinvent BBCBackstage, amongst other precious projects, and with those precious people.

Closing this post, I MUST re-state my admiration of Ian Forrester who has bought together too many creative people and stimulated too many ideas than I can include. Thankfully you can enjoy his future directions over at CubicGarden.
